France’s Socialist Party tabled a narrower version of its wealth tax proposal as a possible compromise in a budget debate that risks toppling the fragile minority government of Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu.
The center-left party added an amendment to the 2026 budget bill that would create a modified version of a broad-based levy they have long advocated, named after the economist Gabriel Zucman.
