A U.S. appeals court has temporarily approved President Donald Trump’s initiative to deploy troops to Portland, Oregon, aimed at addressing protests against his immigration policies. This decision represents a significant advancement for the administration in its strategy to send military personnel into Democratic-controlled cities.
On Monday, a split panel from the San Francisco court overturned a previous ruling that had blocked the deployment of 200 members of the Oregon National Guard to Portland—a city that Trump has controversially claimed is “burning to the ground” and plagued by “insurrectionists,” despite a lack of supporting evidence.
