South Africa has granted a flight permit to a Russian airline operator that is currently under US sanctions. The South African government stated it was not aware that the company had been placed on the blacklist.

On Thursday, an Abakan Air cargo plane, which was sanctioned by the US last year for its role in transporting military equipment for Russia, successfully landed in South Africa. According to a report by Rapport, the aircraft arrived in Upington, located in the Northern Cape province, after a stop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Following a refueling stop at Lanseria Airport near Johannesburg, the plane departed South Africa with an empty cargo hold.
