Egypt’s efforts to build up its economy and boost exports after a grueling crisis may be getting help from an unexpected industry: dietary supplements.
Local manufacturing of vitamin- and mineral-rich pills, powders and foods has surged in the years since the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the North African nation’s top body representing the sector. It estimates overseas shipments have hit $350 million — 75% more than in 2022.
