Geert Wilders’ far-right Freedom Party was in a virtual tie with the centrist Democrats 66 party — but since Wilders is isolated in parliament, it will likely fall to D66 to head a new government.
The Freedom Party and D66 were both set to win 26 seats in the 150-seat House of Representatives, according to a preliminary forecast published by Dutch newswire ANP after 98% of votes were counted. That would represent a loss of 11 seats for Wilders’ party.
